Come and play - Wood carving courses
These online courses take you though basic carving skills, some of my most popular forms and encourage play as a way to learn the art of carving. Complete them in your own time with a small selection of tools. Whether you are just beginning or have completed other courses with me there is something for everyone.
The Articled Whale course covers a range of techniques, including carving skill development, joining of components, and the application of milk paint as a finishing option. The articulated whale can be hung as a mobile piece or set up on a stand. In this design, the tail can move, and the mouth can open and close.
In this course participants will carve the perched style bird with its tail up in the air. The bird is reflective of a Wren, Willy Wag Tail, or a Piwakawaka, with an emphasis on achieving a flowing form, that indicates that the bird it out in the wind. There may also be an opportunity to add individual designs to your bird.

Figured Red Cedar pod vessel. This is a piece of truly beautiful figured red cedar. The pod form is something that I constantly explore as a theme in my work and this piece of wood jumped up as been perfect for one of these little forms.
